In 1997, by agreement of the Social Council, the University of Salamanca recovered as an institution the emblematic figure of the “Patron”, which throughout the history of this Studium has been of great importance: one look at the old stones of its buildings shows how these patrons have contributed unselfishly and altruistically to enhancing the University’s cultural patrimony, not only during the moments of greatest splendour, but also during the difficult times, which almost made it disappear.
